The 66th Battle of Britain Commemorative Ceremony

09/18/2006

Once again, Mayor Lois Jackson and Alpha Aviation were pleased to co-host the 2006 Battle of Britain parade at the Boundary Bay Airport. Despite the inclement weather, 780 cadets and 125 officers marched proudly to celebrate and honour those who served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Battle of Britain. The Honourable Iona Campagnola served as Reviewing Officer and addressed the cadets, reminding them of the importance of the sacrifice of those who served during this important Battle of the Second World War. A copy of her speech can be viewed by clicking HERE. This was the first time that Her Honour has visited Delta in her official role.

Ted Reynolds served as Emcee for the event and welcomed the cadets, veterans and members of the 801 wing of the Air Force Association of Canada, who organize the parade each year.

Major contribution to runway 07/25 restoration project

08/03/2006

On August 3, 2006, the Honourable Kevin Falcon, Minister of Transportation and Highways and local MLA Val Roddick were at the airport to announce a $613,000 contribution to the runway 07/25 restoration project. This project will have important safety advantages for the airport and will allow aircraft to launch further east, minimizing the noise impact of aircraft in the circuit at Boundary Bay.

Concurrent with this announcement, Mayor Lois Jackson announced that the Corporation of Delta approved a sub-lease between Alpha Aviation and Heli One, a division of CHC Helicopters International. Heli One will be building a 220,000 square foot engine maintenance and overhaul facility. The project will bring approximately 450 jobs to the community.

Alpha Aviation and The Corporation of Delta, together again, hosted the 2nd Annual Air Show at the Boundary Bay Airport on July 15th. The day was a big success with over 3,000 spectators enjoying spectacular air performances. Acting Mayor Robert Campbell and Chief Administrative Officer George Harvie, along with Alpha Aviation Chair Fred Kaiser, and President Sandra Stoddart-Hansen, opened the days event with words of congratulation for the airport improvements made over the last year, support for the ongoing projects and a warm welcome to everyone who came out to enjoy the afternoon. The airport is fortunate to be home to many unique aircraft and highly skilled pilots who participated in the show. A wide variety of old and new aircraft took to the skies above the airport on Saturday giving spectators a thrilling visual display. The air show also included a static area displaying a number of interesting aircraft, and children of all ages were able to enjoy crafts, face painting, the Delta Fire Department’s Junior Combat Challenge course, and mini golf. The Air Cadets did a great job of raffling off tickets for two big prizes – rides in two of the aircraft participating in the air show! Thank you to all the participants and volunteers who helped to make this show such a success.

How did your kids spend spring break?

03/27/2006

If you're an Air Cadet in the 828 Hurricane Squadron, you were at the Boundary Bay Airport helping with a massive clean up effort in the long term parking area of the airport. The 21 cadets and their leaders pitched in with Alpha Aviation staff and managed to fill a large dumpster with discarded items from around the airport. The cadets were able to recover some copper and aluminum which they sell for scrap to raise money for their air cadet activities. Fortunately for the cadets, two Griffon Helicopters were nearby filming a recruitment ad for National Defense. When they arrived for refueling, the crew graciously showed the cadets around the aircraft -- a perfect ending for the day's work.

Thanks again to the cadets for their fine efforts.
